Couple lounging comfortably at home

How to keep your Napoleon and Northwest Ohio home comfortable this winter

The plummeting temperatures in Napoleon and Northwest Ohio aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s simple to daydream about the warmer temperatures, it’s important to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a big role in this, which is why it’s so important to complete annual furnace service.

We do have to note that there are only a couple things that will provide as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is recommended be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a long winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the entire time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a few other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — many energy companies will offer an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need fixed. You may be surprised what areas are permitting hot or cold air to escape.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to make it’s way inside your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in working-order or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be allowing cold air inside. If you notice any issues, weatherstripping is easy to swap and can take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common areas for air leaks may be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they might be letting all the hot air in your home get out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as simple as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These handful tips are just a place to start, but do realize that there are other easy fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy jobs to complete on the weekend.
